"My best white came from Tascante"

"My best white came from Tascante"

Tasting Report by James Suckling: "Etna – My top new wines from Italy's hottest region"

Carricante Buonora 2012: 93 score

"My best white came from Tascante, the Etna label from the Sicily's winemaking clan of Tasca d'Almerita. The 2012 Carricante Buonora shows wonderful freshness".

Tasting Notes: A salty and rich white with minerals, lemons and a sliced apple character. Wonderful density and freshness all at the same time. A benchmark white from Etna. It shows Burgundian density. Drink now.

Technical sheet: A first encounter between Tasca and this variety, still to be “rediscovered” and given value. Ours is a local interpretation, which presents mineral content from volcanic soil, sulphureous accents, and fading scents of hydrocarbons even in recent vintages. Buonora: a wine that reflects the nature of the soil from which it is born – the Etna.

Ghiaia Nera 2011: 91 score

Tasting Notes: This is round and fruity with a fresh strawberry and cherry character. Medium to full body, fine tannins and crisp finish. Very delicious. Drink now.

Technical sheet: Drawn by a combination of unique climate and volcanic soil, with true biodiversity acting as a backdrop to the vineyards, the “Tascante Estate” project, now in its third grape harvest, has added a second wine: “Ghiaia Nera” (Black Gravel), our interpretation of “Nerello Mascalese” from the young vineyards of the Estates of Mount Etna. Another important witness for Sicily, a wine growing continent made up of different territories and countless variables, so much so that it still has enormous potential to be expressed.
